Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Lately there has been a lot of hype surrounding the new Star Wars film. Like a whole lot. And with good reason. This is one of the most anticipated films of our lifetime. It’s the perfect storm of Jedi filled space battling armies.

The characters we know and love like Luke, Han, and Leia, are making a triumphant return in a sequel that is long overdue. And we can finally put the prequels out of our memory forever. Unless of course the Jar Jar sith lord theories are correct which I’ll get to in a minute.

Bottom line is this movie will be huge. People are excited like never before and for a dad like me I’m doubly stoked. Not only do I get to enjoy the continuation of the story I’ve loved since childhood, I get to experience it with my own kids. So if you are starting to get excited like we are, let it out. You have my permission to be a kid again this time.

So with all the buzz and excitement swirling around the movie I thought I’d share a list of the most interesting and fun things we’ve found on Star Wars: The Force Awakens. If you have something you don’t see on the list please email us as we’d love to add it. We’d love for this to become a fan driven page with all of the best links from around the web. Enjoy, and may the force be with you!

Digital Dads Podcast – Episode #6

DD6-Star-Wars

Ok. Maybe I’m a little biased on this one. But we are both big fans of the movies and did an entire episode about the new film a year ago. That’s how excited we were over a year ago. And the excitement level has only increased as we get closer to its release.

Not only did I boldly predict this would be the BIGGEST movie of all time (and I still stand by that claim), this was also the first episode to include audio clips of us with our kids. Something that immediately became the norm for future shows.

Interviews with the Cast

J.J. Abrams and company have kept a pretty tight lid on details about the movie’s plot. But as it gets closer they’ve all become just a little more loose lipped. Mind you, not enough to spoil much of anything. Just enough to irritate die hard fans. Relax. The movie will be great and the surprises are in tact. Just stay away from social media once it opens in theaters until after you see it and you should be fine.

That “Insane” Jar Jar Binks is a Sith Lord Theory

Gungan_Sith-218x300

Maybe you’ve heard about this already. The idea here is that Jar Jar Binks, the same bumbling idiot of a character everyone loves to hate, is in fact the mastermind Sith Lord behind the Emperor Palpatine. I know. Crazy right?

When I first learned about this my knee-jerk reaction was “Get the %#$*! out of here!” I mean he’s the most hated character in Star Wars and probably of any movie in a very long time. And now they want us to believe he’s some kind of manipulative evil Sith mastermind? Heresy.

But the more I learned the more I realized the evidence was at the very least interesting if not wholly compelling. It seems perhaps George Lucas had much bigger plans for Jar Jar before chickening out due to audience backlash.

You can check out the Youtube video yourself and make up your own mind. As for me, I’m extremely doubtful he’ll make a return in the new movie but am pretty convinced that it’s at least possible this could have become canon. Wild.

Journey to The Force Awakens

Many fans were looking forward to seeing some of the extended universe in the new film, specifically The Thrawn Trilogy. But by tossing out all these stories the studio is able to create something entirely new with surprises for everyone. The only thing they toss us are a few clues.

Speaking of clues, there are a handful of books and comics that give some key information about the new film. By this time it’s probably too late to read it all before the movie comes out. But if you want to fill in the gaps of the story this is a great way to do it. May the force be with you.
